Review & Giveaway: Smooth as Silk Pillowcase

Whether your hair is long or short, you need one of these.

Whether your hair is thick or thin, you need one of these.

And whether your hair is curly or straight, you need one of these.

Simply put, if you have not experienced the splendor that is a 100% silk charmeuse pillowcase, you especially need one of these.

My hair story is nothing spectacular, but it is rather detailed (you can read the low-down here), and there isn’t much I haven’t tried with regard to either A.) keeping my hair healthy, and, B.) making sure it stays straight – both of which are no easy task for a girl with thirsty-dry Scary Spice-type locks.

I actually bought my first silk pillowcase back in 2005…by accident. Quick and – 100% true – story: Scott and I were long distance dating at the time (He lived in Jersey and I lived here in Michigan). He was set to fly in for a weekend visit, and I was looking to kick my bedroom d├ęcor up a notch, so I went out and bought a set of silk sheets (and scented candles, and, well, I’ll just stop there). At the time I wore my hair with quite a bit of volume on top, and, believe it or not, slept in jumbo Velcro rollers. (I must have looked ravishingly sexy at bedtime, I know.) Well, the first night we slept on the sheets, I fell asleep before I could roll my hair.

I awoke with a start at 4 a.m., suddenly mindful of the fact that my hair was roller-free. The horror! I thought. My hair must look jacked up from the back up!!! With a sleeping Scott next to me, I slithered out of bed, genuinely afraid of what my hair must have looked like, and made a bee-line for the bathroom...

And what I saw in the mirror made me both perplexed and relieved: My hair looked fine. In fact, it looked better than fine. It was perfect: No frizz, no indentation, and my hair was still sleek and soft to the touch, unlike when I’ve slept on a cotton pillowcase which, literally, zaps your hair of moisture while you snooze.

I've never used anything but a silk pillowcase since. Even when I travel, I bring my own to put over hotel pillows. And for the record, this pillowcase isn't too hot to sleep on, which is a concern some of you may have. Sleeping on this pillowcase is wholeheartedly different than sleeping on a complete set of 100% silk sheets. For one, being enveloped in silk sheets is what tends to make people hot -- this is only the pillowcase. And, second, silk charmeuse is different from traditional silk sheets in that silk charmeuse is an all-climate fabric; warm and cozy in the winter, and cool and soft in the summer.

Here are additional perks of sleeping on a silk pillowcase:
*Reduces the appearance of sleep lines and creases while reducing split ends and overnight hair damage
*Does not absorb moisture as cotton can…the moisture stays on your face where it belongs, leaving you feeling refreshed
*Extremely comfortable to sleep on
*Naturally hypoallergenic so it’s great for those with sensitive skin

But don’t take my word, see for yourself by entering the giveaway below. (This pillowcase retails at $19.99!)  This giveaway will run until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, June 1. And before you go, please take a moment to connect with my friends, Real Deal Style, on social media:

  3. I wish silk didn't make me so hot. I had a couple of sets, but ended up never using them because I would sweat so much on them. Great giveaway though!

    1. Hi, April! I agree wholeheartedly with a complete set of 100% silk sheets, but this is different. And let me tell you why...

*For one, this giveaway is not for a complete set of sheets -- you can still use whichever set f sheets you prefer (aka, that keep you cool). This is only the pillowcase. For me, it was being enveloped in the sheets that made me hot.

*Second this is silk charmeuse, which is quite different from 100% purse silk, which does tend to make people hot. To the contrary, as I've stated above in the list benefits, silk charmeuse is an all-climate fabric; warm and cozy in the winter, and cool and soft in the summer.

Thanks for visiting, and commenting. :-)

  4. That's the miracle product? I thought it would be oil from Tibet! i'm entering!

    1. What? Are you disappointed????

I've never heard of Tibetan oil, however, I wouldn't advise that you use it while sleeping on this pillowcase. (It sounds terribly messy! lol)

Seriously, don't knock this pillowcase till you try it: There's A LOT to be said for preserving a blowout while a woman sleeps. Trust me, I know. ;-)

  5. Here's the deal. I sweat at night and I sleep in a silk bonnet which I do sweat through and then my pillow case looks like something not too savvy. I've debated upon getting a silk pillowcase cause I'm just afraid it's going to promote sweat like silk sheets do for me. It's a pain in the ass getting older and dealing with nice sweats but your hair is absolutely gorgeous. Guurl, if I could get mine that long I would think I was the shit LOL.

    1. LOL! Angela, I always enjoy reading your comments because you crack me up!!

Okay this pillowcase is a bit different that your bonnet -- which is probably polyester satin, and not real silk, right? Polyester is not a natural fabric, which does not allow for air flow...which traps in heat. This pillowcase is different. I'm going to paste the response I wrote for April (above) here:

I agree wholeheartedly with a complete set of 100% silk sheets possibly making you hot, but this is different. And let me tell you why...

*For one, this giveaway is not for a complete set of sheets -- you can still use whichever set f sheets you prefer (aka, that keep you cool). This is only the pillowcase. For me, it was being enveloped in the sheets that made me hot.

  6. Ooh, I need on bad! I've been sleeping on a satin pillowcase but hair keeps "catching". Not good!

    1. Hi, Stacie! Boo to the "catching." You won't have any of that with this pillowcase. This thing feels like butter against the skin and hair...

Thank you for taking the time to comment -- and thank you also for the "like" on Facebook and the follow-back on Twitter!

      Enjoy your holiday weekend.

    1. Hi, Stephanie! And oh my God, are you right: silk pillowcases are generally harder to find than a yellow needle in a haystack...

Please do consider these...trust me, you won't regret it! (Says the woman who fell asleep on her silk pillowcase again while her hair remained in a high ponytail...and her hair STILL looked decent in the morning! ;-)

      Thank you for commenting.

    1. Hi, Susie! Yes, every woman needs this! lol (And although I received one for free for reviewing the product, I need to buy a second (and possibly a third) as a back up for laundry day, as the ones I bought several years ago are starting to look a little mangy...
